1. Don’t assume your audience are idiots

2. Don’t misspell or use poor grammar

3. Don’t try to be interesting – be yourself

4. Don’t only state things – ask questions and encourage interaction

5. Don’t write something you’re going to regret later

Is there anything I missed?

  1. Maybe part of #3: Don’t try to be interesting. The subject you are writing about is interesting and you are interested in it.

    Maybe part of #5: Don’t write something you’re going to regret later. Such as using snide, angry, antagonistic or abusive language or attacking someone or something.

  2. Thanks! Those are great points. On #5 – It’s really important to remember that if it’s on the internet with your name on it, it’s stuck to you forever. Remember in school how they used to say, “I’m rubber and you’re glue, everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you”? Yes? When it comes to the internet, that statement is very true. :)
